These scholarships have been designed to offer support to individuals who may not typically pursue studies in anthropology or ethnographic methods due to existing time, financial, or social constraints.

Eligibility Criteria for Master’s scholarships

Eligible Countries:

  • Open to UK/EU and Overseas applicants

Acceptable Courses or Subjects:

  • The scholarship will be awarded for the MA in Medical Anthropology and Mental Health or the MRes in Social Anthropology.

Admissible Criteria: To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • For the MA in Medical Anthropology and Mental Health:
    • Hold a minimum 2:1 bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a related subject, OR health sciences such as medicine, psychology, nursing, or social work.
    • Possess a strong research project idea that utilizes ethnographic methods to comprehend an issue related to mental health.
  • For the MRes in Social Anthropology:
    • Hold a minimum 2:1 bachelor’s or master’s degree in Anthropology.
    • Have a robust research project idea that employs ethnographic methods.

Preference may be given to:

  • Candidates with lived experience of working in or accessing mental health care as a professional or service user.
  • Candidates from underrepresented groups, including racialized and minoritized groups.

Application Process

To apply for the scholarship:

  • Apply for your chosen program:
    • MA in Medical Anthropology and Mental Health: Apply via Taught Masters applications.
    • MRes in Social Anthropology: Apply via the Doctoral school.
  • Complete the scholarship application by 12:00 PM (midday UK local time) on 31 May 2024, using the online application form.

Scholarship Benefits

Each full-time scholarship covers tuition fees for the academic year 2024/25. For part-time students, funding will cover tuition fees for the academic years 2024/25 and 2025/26.

Applicants will receive notification of the scholarship outcome by the end of July 2024.
