Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you’ll need a 5-year master’s degree (3+2) in theoretical physics, materials physics, theoretical chemistry, nanotechnology, or a related field. Your grades should be equivalent to a B or higher for both your master’s thesis and overall degree. You’ll also need strong skills in areas like density functional modelling, semi-empirical codes, and molecular dynamics simulations. Excellent English proficiency is a must.

In addition to strong academic credentials, successful candidates will possess:

  • A good understanding of chemistry
  • Solid skills and knowledge of density functional modelling with common ab initio codes such as Quantum Espresso or VASP
  • Knowledge of semi-empirical codes such as DFTB+
  • Experience with using interactive codes such as LAMMPS or Gromacs
  • A good command of both oral and written English (TOEFL, IELTS, CAE/CPE, or PTE Academic scores as specified)
  • Motivation and potential for research within the field
  • The ability to work independently and in a team, be innovative and creative, and handle a heavy workload
