Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Retina Australia Research Grants 2025, applicants must:

  • Institutional Affiliation: Be affiliated with a recognised Australian medical research institution.
  • Research Focus: Propose a project centred on the detection, prevention, treatment, or cure of inherited retinal diseases.
  • Qualifications: Hold at least a PhD or Master’s degree from an Australian university or one recognised by the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Application Limit: Submit only one application as the Chief Investigator per funding round.
  • Co-Investigator Limit: Be named as a co-investigator on no more than two applications per funding round.

Funding Conditions

Recipients of the Retina Australia Research Grants must adhere to the following conditions:

  • Use of Funds: Funds must be used exclusively for the approved research project within the 2026 calendar year.
  • Expenditure Limits: Expenditure on non-consumable equipment items exceeding $2,000 requires prior written approval.
  • Reporting: A Financial Acquittal Report and a non-technical Project Report must be submitted by 31 March 2027.
  • Acknowledgement: Retina Australia’s support must be acknowledged in all publications and presentations related to the funded research.
  • Data Sharing: Grantees are expected to share data with other research groups funded by Retina Australia.
  • Intellectual Property: Any intellectual property arising from the research remains the property of the research institution. However, if commercial development occurs, a fair and reasonable proportion of profits should be negotiated with Retina Australia.
  • Engagement: Grantees may be required to present their research at Retina Australia’s National Congress or participate in webinars.
